The HTC Touch HD is a beautiful phone. The highly, almost legendary community XDA has with almost consensus voted it as the best windows mobile phone out as of today. But noting is as good as it cannot be improved.
On this page I will try to keep up with what I find useful on the application-scene, both freeware and payware.
Quite obvious but Google Maps has arrived in a new version not included in most of-the-shelf-roms so don’t forget to upgrade. http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html
GekoNewCal is a beauty in its simplicity. It just adds a finger-friendly way to add new appointments to the calendar. HTC should have included this in the TouchFlow 3D if you ask me. That would have given the developer quite some economical boots . Its design is seamless to the TF3d-interface. Very good indeed.

New design for the calculator to fit the wvga-screen. There are some to chose from so pick your choice

Klaxon alarm to wake you up in the morning. Very nice application that completely replaces the standard alarm, but in a seamless way. It can use both the g-sensor and the light-sensor. For example, turn the alarm off by turning the bedlight on. Flip the phone to snooze or shake it to turn it off. But what makes it useful is the neat finger-friendly interface.

Advanced Configuration Tool is the interface that lets you set a lot of things that’s normally only accessible via the registry. Configuration is king!

Caller Utility is the free version of the 118-adressboken that looks up the incoming number and presents the realname of the caller even if not present in the contact list. It’s a bit ugly though. The 118-adressboken is much better integrated into winmo.

Core player is the videoplayer to use. Plays almost everything to throw at it. Problem right now is that it wont use the hardware-acceleration in Touch HD and this can be noticed sometimes due to the large screen. But the next version is promised to fix this.

Gyrator is useful, sometimes. It gives you landscape/portrait-switching via the g-sensor in all applications (luckily you can setup exceptions). Normally (by some odd reason) this only works in opera and the album-application. Quite obviously this is a design-flaw by HTC since normally all the Office-tools works best in landscape. Also navigation-softwares should be run landscape of cource.

HTC Tweak HD is another configuration-tool that i can recommend. Lets to open up some features that HTC desided to hide (why?!) like video-sharing, gps-photo, burst/sports-photo etc.

Stopwatch is just another stopwatch-tool. But whenever you need to time something. Use this.

Split The Bill lets you.. erh.. split the bill. Just that and nothing more. Sometimes simple is beautiful. Enter the bill, the tip in percentage and how many people.

Xchange R8 is a small utility for calculating exchange-rates on the holiday. Enter the foreign price and get it translated into your ditto. Simple as that. And it updates automatically.

WMMiniGPS is a very thin application that lets you log your position and later export it to Google Earth.

We have released the new version of GekoNewCal 3.0.
A kinetic picker used instead of the stylus and a finger friendly set-up: this is GekoNewCal, the revolutionary application for the management of calendars of all smartphones based on Windows Mobile. Managing appointments becomes easy and fun: thanks to a simple and completely “Finger Friendly” interface, the stylus can be substituted with fun kinetic pickers and comfortable buttons for the setting of appointments.
That’s not all: GekoNewCal is the only application of this kind allowing the use of the “invitation” function. In fact, while scheduling an appointment, it’s possible to invite friends and colleagues to take part by using a specifically created SMS, carrying all the details of the meeting. If accepted, a confirmation will be sent to the meeting organizer and the date will be automatically scheduled in both calendars.
Distributed by Geko Style®, GekoNewCal is available for downloads on http://www.gekonewmobile.com.
