This is the home-replacement system that is a must. At least until something better shows up. Its highy customizable so it’s rather irrelevant to show any screenshots. DropBox

If you have not yet discovered this app then you really shall check it out. It is a synced folder that is accessible from both the phone and the computer (and for others if you like). When I find something I want to have on the phone I just download it to the dropbox-folder and tada! There it is! No usb-cable or bluetooth. And as soon as I have installed this FREE app i can access all the files i need.

PowerAmp

This music player is as far as I know the best there is. Even when you compare it with other non-android platforms. It´s very good-looking, works in both portrait and landscape, and has a real equalizer. And the equalizer means everything when listening to music. There is a preset for the internal speaker that makes the Galaxy S go from boring speaker to pretty neat sound! It also features a widget and a lockscreen. The only thing I really miss is the ability to use Google Voice-actions to “listen to”. This works in the next app though. You have a pretty generous free trial-period and the price is very low. If you spend this amount of money on a handset you cannot afford to not use this app.

Spotify

Spotify is not a freeware on the mobile phone and that is a pity. Actually I find it rather expensive… but then again, the service it offers is outstanding. Over 10 million tracks right there in your pocket and the ability to “offline-sync”, meaning download to sd-card (but only being able to play it in the spotify-client with a payed account). There is a nice widget but no lockscreen. And of course I miss the equalizer from Poweramp.
Very cool and useful in the car is Google Voice search. Press the Google-widget and Say “listen to Queen we will rock you”. Wait a sec and the correct song is played.

Widget Locker

This is a customizable lockscreen. It works as a replacement for the standard lockscreen. The good thing about this one is that you can place widgets on it. So you can have your clock, weather-forecast, newsticker or whatever directly on the lockscreen. And you can place your own sliders with shortcuts!
My setup it two sliders. Drag finger to the left and start the camera, drag it to the right to fire up the flashlight. You know when it´s so dark and you need that light,  but don´t have the time to fiddle with the menus. The other slider fires up either the dialpad or the silence/vibrator-mode. You are in a meeting and need to silence it, slide finger and it´s done.
I also have set it up to wake on the home-button, and another press on the same button unlocks it. I don´t like to try to find the power button on the side.

You can also actually hack the apk and replace the images there to customize the look completely!

Fancy Widget

I like this one. It offers good visual customization and a good weather-forecast. I thing I like is when you hit the forecast, you can hit it once more and then open up a custom web page. In Sweden we have the klart.se-service which is very accurate with hour-by-hour forecast.

Multi Picture Live Wallpaper

This is not yet a survivor but I sure is a candidate. This buddy lets you set one unique image to each home screen instead of one large 960×800 wallpaper. And it lets you setup rather nice transitions between the images that looks very cool. Why want to have different images on each home screen you might ask. Well, I think it make sense to have one for the calendar, one for the start screen, one for the music etc.

Android Agenda Widget

This one is the most customizable calendar widget I have found. I like to have one full home screen for the agenda that fills the whole screen. This one lets you do exactly this (among a zillion other setups). It also lets you scroll the list. But beware, It is a PAIN to setup the way you want it to.

Tapatalk

This goodie lets you browse, read and interact on most of the large online forums out there. My choice is to follow xda-developers and swedroid.se

By the way, the htc-sense looking clock is called Fancy Widgets and cannot be found in the market because htc has asked the developer to remove it. If you are the slightest creative you can pretty easily figure out where to find it anyway (hint: Jack Sparrow landed his ship in such a place). Its uninstalled though due to by some reason taking a lot of cpu.

Priset ca 10 000 kr. Inte farligt med tanke på vad man får för pengarna.

Lite trist att den bara klarar 3,4 bilder per sekund. Det har naturligtvis med den höga upplösningen att göra, men en snabb brust är väldigt användbart tycker jag.

Tyvärr har den även ärvt 4xx-seriens värdelösa knappar på baksidan. Men något måste väl skilja från den dyrare 50D. Man kan säkert vänja sig, men i stridens hetta så är faktiskt kontrollknapparna viktigare än alla tekniska specifikationer.

HD-video i 1080p med 20 fps eller 720p med 30 fps är verkligen inte illa. Det är i princip samma kretsar som i den betydligt dyrare 5D Mark II faktiskt. Vanlig HD-videokamera i all ära men tänk möjligheten med att kombinera detta med riktiga EOS-objektiv. Fantastiskt rent av!

Brusnivåerna enligt http://i.gizmodo.com/5182772/canon-eos-rebel-t1i-first-hands-on-50ds-sensor-1080p-vids-899-  är helt okej, men man ser tydligt skillnaden mot 5D M2. I vettigt ljus verkar ISO 12800 bruset motsvara min gamal 30D i 1600. Dvs användbart men inte i alla sammanhang. Dock är det bättre tycker jag med skarpa brusiga bilder, än tvärt om.

The first shield had a problem with the frontside due to an almost invisible threashold from the screen and the case. So tiny that you wont notice it. But when you stick the shield onto it you cannot squeeze out the air from it so it gets a bit ugly. The replacement has fixed this with two front-pieces.

They have also included a small shield-piece to protect the raised lens-protection on the backside. Good idea.

So what is Invisible Shield anyway? Its a plastic cover that to stick to your 500 dollar phone to protect it from scratches. One way to make the phone look a bit prettier when you want to sell it after one or two years. There are sereral systems like this but this is almost invisible. Compare it to other chunky cases that makes the phone look like a brick from the last millenia.

It works very well. Its almost impossible to scratch the surface. Makes you wonder why HTC dont do this by default…

There are some bad sides to this offcource.

1. Its a painstaking procedure to attach it to the phone. You want it to look pretty so you need to squeeze out all bubbles. They have included a moisure for this purpose that works well. Problem starts when you try to attach it to a corner or a bent surface. Then you have to force the rubber to bend and “mould” into place. For this you need time. You wet the skin and press and hold until it has dried. But at the same time you must make sure its perfectly aligned and all bubbles are out. Took me over 2 hours before I was pleased.

2. Obviously the screen looses a bit of sensitivity. And when using the stylus its a rubbery feeling and the stylus gets stuck if you drag it in to sharp angles. But no scratches

UPDATE ** 2010-08-16 **

I have used the full-body invisible shield now for about 18 month and it looks quite ugly. The sides do not stick anymore and have a lot of dust. But still, when I pulled the film away (except for the screen that still fits perfectly) there is not one single scratch even after 18 months of heavy usage and some dropps. So it does its jobb, to protect from scratches.

I snapped a picture in landscape and voíla, the new contact-suggestion came up at a glance. Not one single misspelling and, most impressive of all, al the pieces were tagged correctly. The name was in the namefield, the phonenumber, even the fax was correct. Just perfect. The only thing missing was the logo for the contact-image but I guess I cant ask for too much.

So good choice of software to bundle HTC!

GekoNewCal is a beauty in its simplicity. It just adds a finger-friendly way to add new appointments to the calendar. HTC should have included this in the TouchFlow 3D if you ask me. That would have given the developer quite some economical boots . Its design is seamless to the TF3d-interface. Very good indeed.

Klaxon alarm to wake you up in the morning. Very nice application that completely replaces the standard alarm, but in a seamless way. It can use both the g-sensor and the light-sensor. For example, turn the alarm off by turning the bedlight on. Flip the phone to snooze or shake it to turn it off. But what makes it useful is the neat finger-friendly interface.

Core player is the videoplayer to use. Plays almost everything to throw at it. Problem right now is that it wont use the hardware-acceleration in Touch HD and this can be noticed sometimes due to the large screen. But the next version is promised to fix this.

Gyrator is useful, sometimes. It gives you landscape/portrait-switching via the g-sensor in all applications (luckily you can setup exceptions). Normally (by some odd reason) this only works in opera and the album-application. Quite obviously this is a design-flaw by HTC since normally all the Office-tools works best in landscape. Also navigation-softwares should be run landscape of cource.

Som synes på bilden är det från 18 mm till hela 270 mm (eller 28 - 419 mm med asp-sensor). Med andra ord helt i klass med Lumix-kompakterna. (Bild från DPReview). Tamrons bildstabiliseringssystem är inbyggt i den dessutom.

Bländarvärdet är kanske som väntat inte det bästa men användbart. f/3.5 - 6.3. Den väger 550 g vilket måste betraktas som ganska lite med tanke på telet.
